Certificate in Health Professions Education (CHPE)
Health Professions Institutions in Pakistan are supposed to have a functional Department of Medical Education. The presence of qualified faculty members in this specialty, therefore, has become an acute necessity.
The new eligibility criteria for leadership positions state that a minimum of six-month program in health professions/medical education is required to qualify for any academic position. This complements the repeated requests from the senior and mid-career faculty members, for short courses in medical education, which can be completed along with their hectic schedules and involvement in their primary disciplines.
Aims of The CHPE Program
The JSMU-CHPE program aims to improve the teaching and assessment practices and processes in health professions institutions. It aspires to work at the practitioner level and form a platform for advancement of standards of health professions education.
By the end of the program, learners will be able to:
- i) demonstrate skills in high quality teaching (face-to-face and online), lesson planning and item writing
- ii) make informed, evidence-based decisions
This is a blended program, i.e. it has face-to-face sessions along with on-line learning opportunities. The Certificate program is divided into 3 modules. Participants will be invited to attend six-day sessions during modules 1, 2 and 3. Each module will consist of workshops plus independent assignments.
This is a uniquely designed program because it deals with issues of teaching and assessment of Cognition, Psychomotor skills and Affects. Hence, the module titles are:
- Teaching and Assessment of Cognition
- Teaching and Assessment of Skills
- Teaching and Assessment of Affects
