INTRODUCTION IHBM
The Institute of Health & Business Management (IHBM) was established in 2015 as a constituent institute of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU). The Institute is authorized to offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Business and Healthcare Management in compliance with the policies, standards, and regulatory framework prescribed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
IHBM offers variety of programs such as Bachelor of Business Administration BBA, BBA Hospital & Health Care Management and MBA Hospital & Health Care Management and EMBA within a structured academic framework designed to ensure academic rigor, curriculum relevance, and attainment of intended learning outcomes. The Institute offers variety of specialization streams in Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and Project Management, reflecting alignment with national market needs, industry expectations, and HEC-approved curriculum frameworks. The programs are developed, implemented, and periodically reviewed in accordance with HEC curriculum guidelines, the Pakistan Qualification Framework (PQF), and stakeholder feedback, ensuring continued relevance to contemporary organizational and healthcare sector requirements.
The offered comprehensive programs are designed to develop graduates with strong analytical abilities, managerial competence, ethical awareness, and professional responsibility. The curricula emphasize strategic management, organizational behavior, leadership, innovation, and evidence- based decision-making, while incorporating practical exposure, case-based learning, research orientation, and experiential learning components. Program structures facilitate the development of critical thinking, effective communication, teamwork, and efficient resource management skills applicable across diverse organizational and sectorial contexts. Graduates of IHBM are gainfully employed and actively contributing to major public and private sector organizations across Pakistan.
In compliance with the HEC Guidelines 2025, IHBM has revised its MBA program structure to offer a two-year MBA for non-business graduates and a one-and-a-half-year MBA for candidates with a business education background. Effective from 2026, Hospital & Health Care Management (HHCM) is offered as an elective stream within both BBA and MBA programs. Furthermore, additional electives such as Islamic Banking and Finance and Hotel and Tourism Management have been incorporated to enhance academic breadth and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, subject to approval by the relevant statutory bodies.
Another significant institutional milestone is the approval of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, for the Ph.D. in Management Sciences program, offering specializations in Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and Hospital & Health Care Management (HHCM). This approval reflects the Institute’s compliance with HEC-established quality assurance criteria, including requirements related to qualified doctoral faculty, curriculum design, research infrastructure, learning resources, governance mechanisms, and academic sustainability. Following the receipt of this approval, the Institute of Health & Business Management (IHBM) is in the advanced stages of academic and administrative readiness and plans to launch the Ph.D. in Management Sciences program earliest, in accordance with HEC policies and implementation guidelines.
